Rockstar Games developer Aaron Garbut has called the 2022 GTA 6 leak "weirdly invasive" in an interview with Bloomberg. The comments were published on October 14, the same day the leaker known as Cyberleek announced that its own leaks would stop.

Garbut was talking about 2022, not this year's leaks. Rockstar has not commented on Cyberleek's announcement.

What Garbut said about the 2022 leak

In September 2022, a phishing attack led to dozens of clips from an early build of GTA 6 being posted online. The person responsible was later arrested, but the footage had already spread. Garbut, one of the game's development leads, told Bloomberg how it felt from inside the studio:

It feels like somebody's wading through your dirty washing. It's like they're inside your head. You see your early work out there. Nobody's ever supposed to see that.

"It's really weirdly invasive," he added, "and so it's quite hard to deal with on an emotional level."

Cyberleek says the leaks are over

Cyberleek, which has posted GTA 6 footage since August, put a three-part message titled "End of the road" on its website on October 14. It had promised to release a full playable build if its cryptocurrency token reached a $30 million market cap. "The 30M was not reached, so no build," the message says, adding that "uploading 200+ GB anonymously is a serious risk." Nothing has shown that such a build exists.

The message also defends the token: "The token was always a donation, never an investment." It ends: "The leeks stop here. For now."

Cyberleek claims to hold story spoilers that would be released through a "dead man's switch" if anyone tried to take it down. It has offered no proof of this. The token's value fell sharply after the announcement.

How Rockstar and Take-Two have responded

Rockstar's only public statement on this year's leaks came on August 26, when it said they had been "heartbreaking for our team". Take-Two has taken legal action, including subpoenas to Microsoft and Discord to identify the people behind the Cyberleek name. Our earlier report on Cyberleek's threat covers that in full.

GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
