GTA 6 on PS5 Pro vs PS5: What Is Confirmed and What Could Change
GTA 6 is PS5 Pro Enhanced, but Sony and Rockstar have not said what that means. Here is what is confirmed for each console, and where the Pro's hardware is likely to make a difference.

GTA 6 is listed as PS5 Pro Enhanced on Sony's own page for the game, but neither Sony nor Rockstar has said what the Pro version adds. This article sets out what is confirmed about the two versions and, separately, what the Pro's hardware makes likely.
Everything under "What could change on PS5 Pro" is our reading of the hardware and of Digital Foundry's analysis, not a statement from Rockstar.
What is confirmed
GTA 6 targets 30 frames per second on consoles. Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar North, told Flow Games in August that the consoles were running the game at 30fps, and that whether a 60fps option arrives at launch or later was a question for the technical team. He had no details to give on resolution or ray tracing.
Digital Foundry's analysis of the Extended Look says that footage was captured on a standard PS5. It measured an internal resolution of about 1440p with no dynamic resolution, spatially upscaled to 4K, which leaves the image soft with visible shimmer on fine detail. Lighting and reflections lean heavily on ray tracing, while most shadows use shadow maps. Frame delivery was a stable 30fps.
Digital Foundry's conclusion was that Rockstar has used the base PS5's CPU and GPU so fully that a 60fps console version is "extremely unlikely". It also notes reports from people who spoke to Rockstar that higher frame-rate modes will be considered for post-launch updates.
What the PS5 Pro changes in hardware
Sony's PS5 Pro announcement lists a GPU with 67% more compute units, memory that is 28% faster, up to 45% faster rendering, ray tracing at "double, and sometimes triple, the speed of PS5", and PSSR, an AI upscaler. It does not list a CPU upgrade.
The upscaler has improved since launch. Sony's March 2026 system update enhanced PSSR on PS5 Pro for "sharper and clearer visuals in supported games", according to its patch notes.
What could change on PS5 Pro
This section is speculation, based on the facts above.
Image quality is the likeliest difference
The biggest weakness Digital Foundry found on base PS5 is the image: a plain upscale from 1440p, soft at a distance and shimmering on edges, wires and foliage. That is the job PSSR was built for. We expect the Pro version to reconstruct a sharper image closer to 4K, with less shimmer, which Digital Foundry also expects.
Cleaner ray tracing
Digital Foundry describes GTA 6's ray-traced reflections as low resolution, with blur and ghosting when the camera moves, and its ray-traced lighting as noisy in places. Faster ray tracing on the Pro could go into higher-resolution reflections and less noise. This is the other area Digital Foundry expects to improve.
Probably the same 30fps
Frame rate is mostly held back by the CPU in a world this busy, and the Pro's announcement lists no CPU upgrade. A 60fps mode on Pro looks as unlikely as on the base console. What the Pro's extra GPU power could do is hold 30fps more steadily in the heaviest scenes. A middle option such as 40fps on a 120Hz TV is possible in principle, but Rockstar has not mentioned one.
What should stay the same

The world itself. Crowds, traffic and the way people react to you are simulation work for the CPU, and Digital Foundry describes the game as tuned around the consoles' CPUs at 30fps. Leonida should be as busy on a standard PS5. The content is the same game too: Sony says PS5 Pro features come to games as free patches, not as a separate purchase.
Rockstar has done this before. When GTA 5 came to PS5 in 2022, Rockstar offered three graphics modes: Fidelity at native 4K and 30fps with ray tracing, Performance at upscaled 4K and 60fps, and Performance RT, a hybrid of the two. That was a 2013 game on newer hardware, so it says more about Rockstar's willingness to add modes than about what GTA 6 can run.
Neither Rockstar nor Sony has shown GTA 6 running on PS5 Pro. GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Frequently asked questions
Will GTA 6 run at 60fps on PS5 Pro?
Rockstar has not said. The game targets 30fps on consoles, and Digital Foundry considers a 60fps console version extremely unlikely because the game uses the CPU so heavily, and the PS5 Pro's announced upgrades do not include the CPU.
Is GTA 6 better on PS5 Pro?
It is listed as PS5 Pro Enhanced, but Sony and Rockstar have not said what the enhancements are. Digital Foundry expects better image quality and ray tracing on Pro, through PSSR upscaling and faster ray tracing.
Do I need a PS5 Pro to play GTA 6?
No. GTA 6 runs on the standard PS5, and Digital Foundry says the Extended Look footage was captured on one. The game is also coming to Xbox Series X|S.
Will GTA 6 get a performance mode?
Not confirmed. Rob Nelson told Flow Games that a 60fps option at launch or later was a question for Rockstar's technical team, and Digital Foundry cites reports that higher frame-rate modes will be considered after launch.
When does GTA 6 come out?
November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC version has not been announced.
