GTA 6 Pre-Load Moves Up to November 10 and Needs Up to 212GB, Rockstar Confirms

GTA 6 pre-loading opens on November 10, two days earlier than Rockstar Games first announced, and the download will need up to 212GB. Rockstar gave the dates and the size in a Newswire post on November 3.

The game still unlocks on November 19. What changed is the window before it: Rockstar's pre-order announcement had said digital buyers "will be able to begin pre-loading on November 12, 2026".

When does GTA 6 pre-load start?

On PlayStation 5, pre-loading begins at midnight local time on November 10 in your own time zone. On Xbox Series X|S it begins for everyone at the same moment, at 12am GMT on November 10, Rockstar's pre-load FAQ says.

Code-in-box versions "should be available from retailers beginning November 12", Rockstar said, keeping the physical release on its original date. The box holds a download code rather than a disc, so a boxed copy downloads the same files as a digital one.

How much space does GTA 6 need?

"The pre-load file will require up to 212 GB of available space depending on your device," the FAQ says. It is the first file size Rockstar has published, and it covers both consoles in one figure rather than breaking them apart.

The number is close to the 210GB a PlayStation Store data tracker listed in October, which Rockstar never confirmed. On a standard 1TB PS5 or Xbox Series X, 212GB is roughly a quarter of the drive before the console's own reserved space is counted.

What time does GTA 6 unlock?

Midnight local time on November 19, in every region, on both consoles. Rockstar states it plainly on a support page updated the same day, which is the first time the company has given a release hour.

That settles a question store listings had only hinted at, and it means New Zealand reaches midnight first and the Americas last, as with GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2.

How to make the pre-load start on its own

On PS5, auto-downloads must be enabled and the console must be powered on or in Rest Mode. On Xbox Series X|S, automatic updates must be enabled and the console must be on or in Sleep mode. Without those settings the download waits until you start it by hand.

Rockstar has not announced a day-one update, and it has not said whether the 212GB figure includes one.
