GTA 6 Now Needs PS5 Update 14.22 to Play, a PlayStation Store Data Tracker Claims
PlayStation Game Size says the game's minimum system software rose from 14.10 to 14.22, the update Sony released on November 2. Sony and Rockstar have not confirmed it.

This story is not confirmed by Rockstar Games. Treat the details as provisional.
GTA 6 now needs PS5 system software 14.22 to start, according to PlayStation Game Size, an account on X that reads unreleased data from the PlayStation Store. Sony released update 14.22 on November 2, and neither Sony nor Rockstar has confirmed the requirement.
The claim raises the bar from a month ago. In early October the same account said the game would need firmware 14.10, the update Sony shipped on October 1.
What is in PS5 update 14.22?
Sony's system software page lists the version as 26.07-14.22.00. Its release notes say only: "We've made some security fixes to the system software." There is no new feature for players.
For most players nothing changes. A PS5 that installs updates on its own will already be on 14.22 by the time GTA 6 unlocks on November 19, 2026.

Why it matters to jailbroken consoles
The requirement only bites on consoles that have been kept on older software, usually to run a jailbreak. The Relapse exploit worked up to firmware 13.60, and update 14.10 at least temporarily blocked it, Notebookcheck reported. Owners of those consoles would have to update, and lose the jailbreak, to play.
Sony has not said that 14.22 targets any particular exploit. Wccftech called the change unprecedented, coming less than three weeks before launch.
Where the requirement comes from
PlayStation Game Size is the same account that listed GTA 6 as a 210GB download in October. Its data comes from the PlayStation Store's back end, not from an announcement, and a game's minimum firmware can change again before release day.
Rockstar has not published system requirements for either console. Pre-loading opens on November 12, 2026, when the game's listing on each PS5 will show what it needs.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to update my PS5 to play GTA 6?
Yes, according to a PlayStation Store data tracker, which says the game needs system software 14.22 or later. Sony released 14.22 on November 2, 2026, so a console that updates itself will already meet it.
Will GTA 6 work on a jailbroken PS5?
Not on older firmware, if the reported requirement holds. Jailbreaks such as Relapse run on firmware older than 14.22, so playing would mean updating and losing the jailbreak.
When can I pre-load GTA 6 on PS5?
From November 12, 2026, a week before the November 19 release. The game downloads early but does not unlock until release day.
Is GTA 6 coming to PS4?
No. Rockstar has announced GTA 6 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only.
