GTA 6 Criminal Profile Explained
The Criminal Profile tracks what kind of criminal you are in GTA 6: a careful professional, or violent and dangerous. It is not a good-or-evil meter, it unlocks no rewards, and Rockstar says there is no right way to play.

The Criminal Profile is the first system in the GTA series that keeps track of how you play. Rob Nelson, head of development at Rockstar North, told Famitsu it has some things in common with Red Dead Redemption 2's Honor system, "but there are also differences."
What it measures
It does not ask whether you are good or bad. Nelson said it evaluates "what kind of criminal the player is", whether "you're more of a professional criminal, or whether you're violent and dangerous."
The method counts more than the crime. In Nelson's example, a jewelry store robbery where somebody gets shot can still count in your favour if you handle it well and escape quickly. The Italian YouTuber Mike ShowSha, who played a preview build in July, says stealing a car cleanly is judged differently from smashing its window.
Ordinary crime does not count against you. Nelson told IGN that doing what a mission asks, or dealing with someone who picks a fight with you, does not move the profile. It shifts when you consistently go beyond what is needed.
What it changes
The main effect is how the world treats you. "The more aggressive you are, the more aggressive those around you become," Nelson told Famitsu. Fight the police and they change their attitude quickly.
It may also reach the story. Nelson told IGN that "consistent sorts of actions may have an impact in terms of how the world reacts to you and how the narrative plays out." He told Famitsu that going too wild "may have some kind of effect on the story or characters", without saying what.
What it is not
It is not a shop discount. Nelson said Red Dead Redemption 2's Honor discounts were "a very game-like mechanic" and were left out. The profile is also separate from Jason and Lucia's relationship, he told IGN.
Nelson said there is no correct way to play, and "we don't want to punish players for being bad." According to Mike ShowSha, reaching either extreme does not unlock special abilities, the system was still being tuned, and players who do not care about it should be able to ignore it.
What is still unknown
Rockstar has not shown how the profile is displayed, how far it can change the story, or whether it can be reset. GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Frequently asked questions
Is there an honor system in GTA 6?
Not as such. GTA 6 has a Criminal Profile, which rates what kind of criminal you are rather than whether you are good or evil, and it gives no discounts or rewards.
Does the Criminal Profile change the ending of GTA 6?
Rockstar's Rob Nelson said consistent behaviour may affect how the narrative plays out, but Rockstar has not said whether that extends to the ending.
Can you ignore the Criminal Profile in GTA 6?
Largely, yes. Rockstar says there is no correct way to play, and doing what missions ask does not count against you.
