Robberies are one of the main ways to earn in GTA 6, and you choose how to do them. Rob Nelson, head of development at Rockstar North, walked Famitsu through a stealth store robbery, and described the bigger targets.
Quiet or loud
The quiet way starts at the back door. Kicking it in sets off the alarm, so Nelson used a snap gun, a lock-picking tool, to slip inside. Destroy the security cameras and nobody can see you; disable the security system and the alarm stays silent. Take the cash from the register, leave, and "nobody will know what happened there."
The loud way is faster but draws the police. A crime is only reported if someone sees it or an alarm goes off, and a passerby who sees you about to storm in with a gun can call it in, so the police may be waiting when you come out.

What you can rob
- Stores, alone or with your partner along.
- Jewelry stores and small banks, alone or as a pair.
- Gang hideouts, where the map shows how much cash and how many drugs are stored.
Jewelry stores have strong security, so Nelson advised preparing properly: "The police response is also severe, so once you've done what you came to do, get out quickly."
Pushing your luck
A robbery can turn into a bigger one. The Italian YouTuber Mike ShowSha, who played a preview build in July, says a frightened cashier told him there was a safe in the back room, leaving a choice between the quick cash and a longer stay with more risk. The YouTuber TGG says that in his session, Nelson had to find clues around a store to open its safe.
Getaways
With both characters on the job, you can drive as Lucia and leave the shooting to Jason, or the other way round. If you were wearing masks, Nelson said, getting out of the car and taking them off can be enough to be safe. You can deliver the loot together or send Lucia alone.
You do not have to kill anyone to escape. Suppressive fire pins pursuers down, and Nelson described a chase where shooting a police car's tires flipped it without killing the officers. How violent you are feeds into your Criminal Profile.
Robberies you stumble into
Mike ShowSha came across two masked women trapped inside a jewelry store when its doors locked during their robbery. He helped them out, then took the jewelry himself, and says Rockstar's team had not seen that event in months of testing.
What is still unknown
Rockstar has not said how many robbery targets there are, how payouts compare, or how often stores can be robbed again. GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
