Getting killed or arrested in GTA 6 costs you money, but not your arsenal. Rob Nelson, head of development at Rockstar North, explained the rules to Famitsu, and players who tried a preview build at Rockstar North in July described where you wake up.
What you lose
The cash in your pocket. Nelson told Famitsu there is a risk of losing cash when you are Wasted or Busted, and that if the police or civilians take you down, you lose all the cash you are carrying. Jason and Lucia have a bank account as well as cash on hand, and Nelson's advice is to deposit money somewhere safe.
Guns you picked up. According to the Italian YouTuber Mike ShowSha, who played the preview, weapons taken from the world can be confiscated when you are arrested.
What you keep
Guns you own are not lost for good. Nelson said they are always stored either in the trunk of your personal vehicle or in the armory at Ammu-Nation, so even one you throw away comes back. Mike ShowSha says the same applies after an arrest: your own weapons, including the ones you have customized, are waiting in your personal vehicle.
Where you respawn
An arrest still ends on the Busted screen and a respawn, Nelson told IGN. Mike ShowSha says that dying puts you back at a hospital and being arrested leaves you outside the jail. Rockstar has not said whether you can be released anywhere closer to where you were caught.
What is still unknown
Rockstar has not said whether a hospital stay or an arrest also costs money from your bank account, or whether the preview build's rules will change before release. GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
